Black & White
Black & White Portrait Photography in Porto
When colour is noise, black and white becomes honest — artistic portraits guided in a studio or outdoors in Porto.

Black and white is not a filter — it is a way of seeing
I shoot black and white because it leaves nowhere to hide. No bright background to rescue a weak frame, no warm tone to fake a mood. What stays is light, shadow, form and the expression on your face — and that is always enough.
A black and white portrait does not age. Ten, twenty, fifty years from now it will still look like a photograph, not a trend. That is why I recommend it to anyone who wants images that feel permanent rather than seasonal.

Common worries
"Will black and white hide my features?"
No — it does the opposite. Without colour to distract, your expression and bone structure become the whole image. I choose light that flatters, not flattens.
"What if I change my mind and want colour?"
I always shoot in RAW, so I can deliver the same frames in colour too. You are never locked into black and white.
"Will it look dark and moody?"
Only if you want it to. Black and white can be bright, soft and airy — we decide the mood together beforehand.
Black & White Photography
Black and white portraits in Porto — light, shadow and nothing in the way
I shoot black and white portraits because colour often gets in the way. A green door, a red jacket, a warm sunset — they grab the eye and pull it away from the person in the frame. Strip the colour and what is left is honest: the light on your face, the line of a shoulder, the look in your eyes.
My black and white sessions in Porto happen anywhere light has character — the stone alleys of Ribeira, the hard midday sun at Foz, a single window in the studio. I do not need a golden hour to make a monochrome portrait work; I need a direction of light and a face willing to be seen.
If you want portraits that will look the same in twenty years as they do today, black and white is the safest bet I can give you. Trends come and go, but a well-lit monochrome frame stays a photograph.
Write to me and we will choose the mood, location and contrast together — editorial and sharp, or soft and luminous, or something only we find on the day.
